The Kenyan-Australian community is celebrating a historic milestone as the BET Foundation, led by Lady Emily Korir OAM and her husband Bernard Tanui Korir, takes a bold step in transforming disability care. With the donation of land in Eldoret, the Foundation is set to establish Kenya’s first fully accessible respite centre for children with disabilities, a project that is already inspiring communities across both Australia and Kenya.

Known for its mission to empower women, advance disability inclusion, and build resilient communities, the BET Foundation has always stood as a beacon of hope. The launch of the Accessible Respite Centre Kenya is more than just the construction of a building; it represents a movement to promote dignity, safety, and inclusion for children with disabilities and their families. For the Kenyan diaspora in Australia, this achievement demonstrates the powerful role of community-driven leadership in shaping a better future back home.

The centre in Eldoret will provide a professional and nurturing care space for children with disabilities, ensuring they are supported in an environment built for accessibility. Beyond that, it will serve as a lifeline for mothers and caregivers, offering much-needed rest, reassurance, and renewal. The BET Foundation envisions the centre as a hub of excellence in disability care, one that will transform how disability is understood and supported not only in Kenya but across Africa.

“This is a dream come true,” said Lady Emily Korir OAM, Founder and CEO of the BET Foundation. “The donation of this land in Eldoret means we can begin building a centre where children with disabilities will find joy, safety, and opportunity, and where mothers can finally find the rest and support they so urgently need.” Her husband and strategic partner, Bernard Tanui Korir, echoed this vision, noting: “This Centre is not just about buildings. It’s about changing lives. We are laying a foundation that will serve families for generations, not just in Eldoret, but across Africa.”

The announcement marks a significant chapter not only for the BET Foundation but also for the broader Kenyan-Australian community. It is a story of resilience and diaspora impact, showing how families in Australia continue to support and uplift lives in Kenya. For many, this milestone highlights the enduring values of unity, service, and justice that bind the Kenyan diaspora together.

As the groundwork begins, the BET Foundation is calling on global partners, sponsors, and donors to support the vision. Every contribution will directly fund the construction, staffing, and specialised care services of the respite centre, ensuring that children with disabilities and their caregivers receive the dignity and opportunities they deserve.

For the Kenyan community in Australia, this initiative represents a chance to be part of a legacy of hope. Supporting the BET Foundation is more than an act of giving; it is a step toward rewriting the story of inclusion and justice for underrepresented communities across Africa and the diaspora.
