In a significant show of support for community-driven mental health initiatives, the Minister for Industrial Relations of NSW, Sophie Cotsis, joined the Suicide Prevention Awareness Workshop hosted by Community Connect Hub in collaboration with The Social Junction NSW, Transcultural Mental Health Centre, and Kenya Community NSW.

The workshop, held on 7 November 2025 at Belmore Senior Citizen’s Centre, ran from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and provided an engaging space for open dialogue, education, and collective healing. Participants explored strategies for suicide prevention, resilience-building, and community support—critical topics as mental health continues to affect many within the diaspora.

Also in attendance were representatives from Stotts College, including Nefa Alic, Community Partnership & Placement Manager, who expressed support for student and community wellbeing initiatives. The interactive session highlighted how multicultural communities can come together to reduce stigma, promote help-seeking behaviours, and connect people to vital support services.

Organisers emphasised that suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. “When communities unite, share experiences, and listen to one another, we can truly save lives,” said one facilitator. For those who missed the session, PDF slides and key takeaways will be shared soon through partner networks.

The Kenyans in Australia community continues to encourage participation in such initiatives—reminding everyone that mental health awareness is not just a conversation, but a collective commitment to care and connection.
