Kenyan Achievements Recognised at QACC Reception in Queensland Parliament
A couple nights ago, the African community in Queensland was honoured in a spectacular reception hosted at Parliament House. The event, attended by the Honourable David Crisafulli MP and Minister Fiona Simpson MP, highlighted the outstanding contributions of Africans in Queensland, with Kenyans taking centre stage.

The evening was masterfully led by Herman Voster MP, setting the stage for heartfelt recognition and inspiring speeches. A major highlight was the recognition of Dr. Obonyo by the Premier for his exceptional achievements in academics and research—a moment of immense pride for the Kenyan-Australian community.
The event also featured powerful reflections from community leaders, including Faysel Ahmed Selat and Beny Bol OAM, whose advocacy continues to shape opportunities and strengthen representation for Africans across Queensland. Their words reinforced the significance of community spirit, visibility, and recognition.
For the Kenyan community in Queensland (KIQ), the evening was more than a celebration—it was a reminder of the progress being made and the value of unity. Events like this affirm that Kenyans, and the broader African diaspora, are not only welcomed but also seen, heard, and appreciated.
This milestone serves as a celebration of connections, recognition, and the unwavering spirit of belonging that defines the Kenyan community in Australia.
